About Patrick Roy
Patrick Roy is universally regarded as the greatest goaltender in NHL history and one of the most decorated players in the sport. Born in Quebec City, Roy was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in 1984 and made his full-time debut in 1985–86, when he led Montreal to a stunning Stanley Cup Championship at just 20 years old — winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP and announcing himself as a generational talent. He won a second Stanley Cup with Montreal in 1993, again claiming the Conn Smythe. After a celebrated but turbulent tenure in Montreal, Roy was traded to the Colorado Avalanche in December 1995, where he won two more Stanley Cups (1996 and 2001) and a third Conn Smythe in 2001 — making him the only player in NHL history to win the Conn Smythe Trophy three times. Roy retired in 2003 with four Stanley Cup Championships, three Conn Smythe Trophies, and a career record of 551 wins. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2006 and had his #33 retired by both the Montreal Canadiens and the Colorado Avalanche. He later served as head coach and VP of hockey operations for the Avalanche (2013–2016).
