About Kerry Wood
Kerry Wood is one of the most celebrated pitchers in Chicago Cubs history and the author of one of the greatest individual pitching performances in MLB history. On May 6, 1998, in just his fifth major league start, Wood struck out 20 Houston Astros batters — tying the MLB record for strikeouts in a nine-inning game — while allowing just one hit. Wood spent the majority of his career with the Chicago Cubs (1998–2008, 2011–2012), with brief stints for the Cleveland Indians (2009) and New York Yankees (2010).
